Privacy Policy of the Sun Microsystems Alumni Association (SMAA)
The Sun Microsystems Alumni Association maintains a list of its members as
a networking tool that is limited to use by its members. The database, and
the information contained therein, may not be given to third parties, nor may
it be used by non-members. Personal information may not be given to non-members,
nor may it be exposed without their individual permission.
Terms of Use for the Sun Microsystems Alumni Association (SMAA)
Limited Membership
When you apply for membership, you will be asked to provide certain information:
- Your name
- Your phone number
- The email address you used when you requested membership from Yahoogroups
- Your current job title, if you have one, and company
- When you started working at Sun
- Your last job there (title/division/group)
- When you left Sun
- How you heard about the Sun Alumni Association
We request personal information for a few reasons: to filter out spammers,
and to limit this list to Sun alumni, not current Sun employees. We get a lot
of requests from current Sun employees to have access to the network. Once
people have left Sun, they are welcome to join SMAA (how
to join...).
Appropriate Postings
In general, we stay pretty business-focused but there is occasional discussion
of Sun's current events or situation. Occasional deviations from business topics
are tolerated, and they are rather rare. It's appropriate to list job opportunities
on this list, in fact you're encouraged to do so. If at any time you feel you're
getting too many emails you can go to "digest" mode or decide to only view
things on the web, and not receive emails at all. All those changes are managed
by you, through your account with Yahoo, using that Yahoo ID. We doubt we have
to mention this, but flaming people on the list is considered bad manners.
Reply to the Original Sender
The email list is configured to let you reply directly to someone who posts
a message, so please be sensitive about using "reply all"-- only use it when
your comment is of interest to the group. For example, if Joe Smith announces
his new position, send your "Congrats" response to him directly, not the whole
list.
We Keep a Membership Database
We keep a database within yahoogroups with the members' info, and when your
membership is approved you'll get one more email from us explaining how to
go into that database and put in your contact info. As mentioned, you'll need
a Yahoo ID to have access the database, which is for your personal use only.
